Describe the food in One word, Delicious! The staff is helpful and friendly. Ambiance reminds me of Mexico. I'll for sure be back.

When I came across this place on Instagram, I couldn't wait to give it a try. It's a small mom and pop taco restaurant, cutely decorated with vivid colors, and plenty of indoor and outdoor seating. After ordering at the counter, our food came within 15 minutes. The waiter brought a pail of 6 salsas and laid them out by spice level on our table. Majority of the salsas were bursting with flavor so I was mixing them up whilst eating my tacos. I ordered the barbacoa and beef tacos on corn tortillas. I also ordered the quesabirria tacos, which to my surprise were HUGE! (I did eat all 5 of my tacos- oops). The only downside was that the heat of the food combined with the heat of the restaurant was not the best combo as we were uncomfortably sweating throughout our meal.

Located in a strip mall in a part of spring branch I'd never been before is this gem of deliciousness! It's small and busy but worth it. We ordered the beef torta and the 3 taco plate. Both were great and I loved the salty Mexican bright orange rice. The sauces are brought to your tables and explained by cute little waitresses who are very polite. The red and habanero ones were awesome. I ordered the pastor quesadilla to go based on sight alone and I was also eyeing up the chilaquiles at the table next to ours. Too many dishes--too little time! The prices are also good too.

Update: Yesterday we actually went inside, and the service couldn't be better! They bring you the cleaned up sauces in a little bucket and they tell you which one is the mildest to spiciest. My 10 year old got the tomatillo and he felt cool. I got the second to last spicy one, cry baby or moco one. the best. I got a huarache with Al pastor meat. Reminds me of the ones in Mexico City. We also got some Al pastor tacos, and a lengua one. Mexican born and raised, I'm very biased when it comes to Mexican food They have not failed me! The food is consistently homey, delicious. I've tried most of their menu but my go-tos are the birria quesadillas, the chilaquiles (with it without meat). If I HAD to say anything for improvement is. Don't post about chanclas (huaraches) and not have them!

Why 5 stars? Because the birria tacos were about as good as it gets. --- --- --- There was once a food truck that is now defunct that had the best birria tacos I've ever had. I recently wrote about another truck that was probably just one tier down from that spot, and I think Tacos Dona Lena is in that similar vein. Very good, but not the best ever. I've had this place bookmarked for probably two years and finally had the opportunity to visit. I wanted to try about 10 different things, but figured I would just go with typical quesabirria. I also ordered a side of rice and beans and really enjoyed those, as the beans had a great smokey flavor. I washed it all down with some decent mango drink. Did all of this collectively give me some pretty epic indigestion later that night? Yep. But that's the price you pay for tastiness.

Being in the top 100 and somewhat close to home, I had to check this place out with the family. In short, everything was phenomenal! Before our food came, the manager (I think? Maybe owner?) came by our table, asked if it was our first time there, how did we hear about them, gave us some background and just showed a genuine love of the restaurant, their food, and service. Right before the food came, another lady stopped by with their six salsas and went through them from mildest to hottest. We tried them before the food came out because we're weird like that and our favorites were the second green salsa, the red salsa, and the habanero. Here's what we tried: Birria quesadilla: Out of everything, this was my husband and son's favorite. You can dip it in the consommé or not, but they absolutely loved it. Birria torta: Also very good, the quesadilla was just a bit better. My husband mentioned that avocado slices could have made it epic. Enchilada with chicken: I thought this whole meal was so good. Everything went together nicely and the different salsas all worked. Horchata: Honestly, my husband and I initially did not enjoy the horchata. It was a little less creamy than we are used to. However, when drinking it with the food, the flavor complimented the food perfectly and it tasted great. This restaurant has such a unique vibe and flavor- what a gem for HTown!

After not one, but two absolutely delightful visits to Tacos Don Lena, it's clear to see why this spot is hailed as one of the best birria taco places in the entire US. The birria tacos here are nothing short of AMAZING. Every bite is a perfect blend of juicy, tender meat, richly flavored sauce, and perfectly crispy tortillas, creating a taste sensation that's hard to find anywhere else. What makes the experience even more special is the staff. They're incredibly helpful, ensuring that your dining experience is as enjoyable as possible. Their recommendations are spot-on, and they serve everything with a smile. And let's not forget the cokes in glass bottles - it's those little touches that make the whole experience feel authentic and just downright enjoyable. The birria tacos themselves are a masterpiece of flavor. The meat is slow-cooked to perfection, meltingly tender and infused with a blend of spices that's bold but not overwhelming. Paired with the crunch of the tortilla and the freshness of the accompanying lime and cilantro, it's a taco experience that's hard to beat. Tacos Don Lena doesn't just serve food; they serve an experience that stays with you long after you've finished eating. For anyone looking for the ultimate birria taco experience, this is the place to be. It's a well-deserved five stars from me, and I can't wait to go back for more.

Decent swatijg inside and out but there's a few tables inside where you are gonna be surrounded by people in line. Once we ordered it didn't take too long to get the food. The staff is so amazing and attentive. All the food was delicious. Fajitas, quesadillas, birria tacos. Everyone enjoyed their meal. Seems everyone around us did too.
